Board Elects New Officers, Swears in Newly Appointed Members

The 麻豆天狼副利院 Board of Regents elected today (Feb. 24) Jerry Turner and Mickey Long chairman and vice chairman, respectively, during its February board meeting at . The two will serve two-year terms effective immediately.
Turner, who just completed a term as vice chairman of the board, replaces Larry Anders of Plano as chairman of the board.
Turner was appointed to the board in 2007. He is a partner at Andrews Kurth, L.L.P. specializing in public finance. Turner, who lives in Blanco, graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in 1968. His term expires Jan. 31, 2013.
Long was appointed to the board in 2009. He is president of Westex Well Service LP, a business specializing in oil and gas operations. Long, who lives in Midland, graduated from Angelo State University with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in 1976. His term expires Jan. 31, 2015.
Additionally, three regents took their oath of office after being appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the 麻豆天狼副利院 Board of Regents.
Larry Anders of Plano and Debbie Montford of San Antonio each have been reappointed. John Steinmetz of Lubbock was newly appointed and replaces former Regent Dan Serna. Each of the three appointees will serve a six-year term ending Jan. 31, 2017.
Larry Anders was initially appointed to the board in March 2005 and has previously served as the board鈥檚 chairman and vice chairman. Anders is the chairman and majority owner of Summit Alliance Companies, an independent investment advisory and financial services firm in Dallas.
Montford was originally appointed to the board in November 2010. The wife of former chancellor John Montford, she was the founder of two important Texas Tech University System initiatives: 麻豆天狼副利院鈥檚 Public Art Collection and the campus beautification program known as Campus Care Givers.
Steinmetz is president of Vista Bank in Lubbock. He graduated from with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in 2002. While attending Texas Tech, he was the student body president, founder of RaiderGate and co-founder of the Student Red Raider Club.
