Brandon Creighton
Chancellor, Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº
Brandon Creighton serves as the sixth chancellor of the Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº, bringing decades of experience in public service, higher education leadership, and private-sector development to a system at the forefront of growth, academic excellence, and national visibility.
An eighth-generation Texan, Creighton was born and raised in Conroe and spent much of his childhood on his family’s ranch in southern New Mexico — formative years that instilled in him the values of hard work, personal responsibility, and service. He put himself through college working as a pipefitter and an electrician’s helper before becoming a policy analyst in the Texas Senate. He later served as an investigator and brief writer in the Texas and Oklahoma Attorneys General Offices and built a successful private-sector career as an attorney and real estate developer.
Creighton began his elected service in the Texas House of Representatives before being elected to the Texas Senate, where he earned a reputation as a fiscal conservative and pro-business leader. As chairman of the Senate Committee on Education K–16 and Article III of the Texas budget — responsible for nearly half of the state’s $400 billion budget — Creighton authored transformative legislation, including more than $8 billion in new funding for Texas public schools, the largest teacher pay raise in history, major school finance reforms, and the nation’s largest school choice launch.
He also led sweeping higher-education reforms restoring academic excellence and accountability, including eliminating DEI programs, modernizing tenure, and strengthening university governance. His legislative work further includes major natural-disaster preparedness and resilience initiatives and landmark regulatory reform. Creighton was central to the creation and passage of the Texas University Fund (TUF), a multibillion-dollar permanent endowment that expands research capacity and long-term economic impact for the Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº.
In 2025, Creighton was elected by his peers to serve as president pro tempore of the Texas Senate, placing him third in the line of succession for the state. During his tenure, he served several days as Governor of Texas, including during a historic polar vortex.
As chancellor, Creighton leads a five-university enterprise with an operating budget exceeding $3 billion, more than 21,000 employees, 65,000 students, and a global alumni network of over 400,000. The Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº generates a statewide economic impact of $19.2 billion and manages a $3 billion endowment that fuels research, talent development, and institutional growth. Operating across 20 academic locations in 15 Texas cities and in San José, Costa Rica, the system continues to expand its footprint and national influence at a remarkable pace.
Guided by West Texas values and a commitment to sustained growth, Creighton is focused on positioning the Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº as a national leader in research, innovation, and opportunity. His vision centers on developing the next generation of leaders, strengthening academic and research programs, elevating the system’s national standing, and advancing excellence in technology, medicine, agriculture, and free-market enterprise — ensuring the Â鶹ÌìÀǸ±ÀûÔº remains a driving force for Texas’ strength and prosperity for decades to come.
